External 6x Blu-ray Disc writer from Sony Optiarc

Sony Optiarc Europe has launched a new external Blu-ray Disc writer for intensive media users called BDX-S500U

This multi-talented device replaces an entire media centre. It writes to Blu-ray Disc at 6x speed, plays Blu-ray Disc movies, DVDs and CDs, archives large quantities of data and is suitable as a back-up medium and playback unit for practically any kind of terminal device. The BDX-S500U is also perfect for mobile technology fans who want maximum image quality and unlimited memory while they are on the move.

Installed in the living room, the BDX-S500U from Sony Optiarc is an impressively versatile unit. Delivered with the CyberLink BD Suite, the external burner replaces the DVD player in the home cinema system. It is also optimally equipped for future home cinema applications as one of the first Blu-ray Disc players for 3D movies. The BDX-S500U can be used for the fast and long-term archiving of personal memories such as family photos, for video collection organisation and for the storage of favourite music from the PC or audio player. Users who have a PC, notebook and netbook now only need one drive for all three devices. They can quickly and conveniently store vast quantities of data and always have access to the CDs and DVDs in their video and music collection. Even when travelling, movie and TV series fans benefit from the BDX-S500U because this compact and light Blu-ray Disc Writer delivers brilliant images – whether the user is on the train, in the hotel, using a notebook or a flat screen.

The burner comes with CyberLink’s Media Suite 8. This premium software package includes programs such as the DVD/Blu-ray Disc playback software PowerDVD, the video editing software PowerDirector, and the DVD/BD authoring software, PowerProducer. These programs make it easy to play back 3D Blu-ray Disc videos, edit creative home video material and produce and burn your own Blu-rays Discs and DVDs with impressive menus. Data archiving is also incredibly simple with the PowerBackup burning software.

Sony Optiarc’s new flagship product writes single layer BD-R media (25 GB) in around 20 minutes and double layer BD-R (50 GB) media at up to 4x speed. The BDX-S500U can write DVDs at up to 8x speed, DVD-RAMs at up to 5x speed and CDs at up to 24x speed.

Available from September onwards, it comes with a 25 GB blank so that it’s ready for use straight away.

Sony Optiarc Europe offers a comprehensive 24-month warranty on the drive.
